Abstract

Mental health: A take on women and mother’s battles with depression and anxiety and the forms that it is racialized

Research on mental health has been a critical topic after covid hit and I will be gathering data on women and mothers that deal with mental health. Specifically, I will be answering question that pertain to mothers and the ways that anxiety and depression compared to childless women and the way that racialized mothers navigate depression and anxiety. A comparison between mothers and women that are White, Black and Latinas. Using data from the National Health Interview Survey in the years of 2010-2021. Among racially marginalized mothers that report having depression and anxiety have a different experience then white mother? How many of these mothers seek out professional help? How does depression and anxiety vary among U.S born, and foreign-born Latina mothers differ? This study is important to counter the racialization of mothers that are dealing with depression and anxiety to develop programs and health service to all mothers and women that are affected by these disorders.
