Differences of Young Adults in Mexico and United States

Jenna Santos & Luis Sanchez

Abstract

My proposed study is how The United States of America and Mexico have a big difference when it comes to gender differences, childhood, marital status, education, income, job occupations, urban-rural status and just their overall standard of living. It is important to take a look at these differences because the differences in both young adults’ lives living in either country are facing different obstacles at different times and want to understand why it is happening. The purpose of my study is to compare the differences of young adults’ lives both male and female, ages 25-34. The data I will be using for this research is coming from the International Data Set, utilizing the years 1990, 2000, and 2015 for both Mexico and United States. Some variables I will be using for my project are age, sex, marital status, education attainment, activity (employment) status, occupation, urban-rural status, status in employment, earned income, homeownership. My research question will be, “What differences are we seeing of young adult lives in Mexico and The United States of America? I.e. quality of life, education, job occupation.” I will be using generation theory and life course theory to help guide my research.
