While there are a wide variety of tests that statisticians use to get the most accurate information from the data, we discuss two basic statistical tests that are used to compare a variety of samples that are taken possibly from similar or different populations: the t-test and the analysis of variance ANOVA. These tests are the most common statistical techniques used in practice when we need to study samples that are possibly of different sizes, of different origins, or taken at different times, with possibly various means or standard deviations. By testing hypotheses related to means of given samples, and\/or their standard deviations using t-test and ANOVA we can make decisions about their source populations and their similarities. We focus on the mechanics and concepts underlying these specific techniques and provide our own specific paired or unpaired examples that express the differences between the
